Laser cutting cost calculator

A laser-cut part is priced by how long the beam runs, how many times it pierces, how much of the sheet the part uses, and the set-up shared across the batch.

Cutting
m

The outline plus every internal cut-out.

One for the outline and one for each internal feature.

m/min

For this material and thickness on your machine (an example value).

s

Rises steeply with thickness.

02 Questions

About this calculator.

Why does the number of pierces matter so much?

Each pierce stops the head, burns through the material and starts again. On thick plate a pierce can take several seconds, so a part with many small holes can spend more time piercing than cutting.

Should I charge for the whole sheet?

That depends on whether you can use the remnant. Charging by share of the sheet assumes the skeleton is scrap and the remnant is reused; charging the whole sheet is right for a one-off in an unusual material.

Does Quotometry price laser cutting?

Yes. Laser cutting and engraving price in the widget from a DXF or SVG drawing: cut length and pierces at the speed for each material and thickness, assist gas, the sheet and the handling. Waterjet and plasma price the same way, each with its own speeds and consumables.
