Injection moulding machine guide
Every setting that lives on a Injection moulding machine - what it is, what it does to a price, and what a typical value looks like. This mirrors the machine editor field for field.
A machine in Quotometry is a real machine in your shop. It carries its own hourly rate, its own build volume and its own speeds, and a part is priced on the machine it would actually run on - not on an average of everything you own.
You can have as many as your plan allows, and several configurations can share them through the Library. If you buy another one of the same model, copy it and change the name.
Every setting on this page
These are in the same order as the editor, with the same help text. Each one has an anchor, and the ? beside a field in your console links straight to it - so if you are reading this because you clicked one, the setting you were looking at is highlighted.
Press: clamp, injection unit & set-up
Clamp forceclamp_force_tbasic
The press's clamp force in metric tonnes (a 100 t press clamps with about 1 000 kN). The build volume of this press is the mould space: clear width and height between the tie bars, and the largest mould height.
Price: A part whose projected area times cavity pressure exceeds it cannot run here, and moves to a bigger press.
Typical: 50-500 t.
Largest shotmax_shot_cm3
Largest volume of melt the injection unit delivers in one shot.
Price: A shot larger than this cannot run on this press.
Typical: 50-1 000 cm³.
Hottest barrel temperaturemax_barrel_temp_c
The highest temperature the barrel runs at.
Price: Materials that melt hotter cannot be run on this press.
Typical: 350-400 °C.
Fill rateinjection_rate_cm3_s
How fast the screw fills the mould.
Price: Fill time is a small part of the cycle on thin parts.
Typical: 20-150 cm³/s.
Dry cycledry_cycle_s
Opening, ejecting and closing the mould with no melt.
Price: Added to every shot.
Typical: 2-6 s.
Set-up per runsetup_min
Hanging the mould, connecting water, heating up and purging.
Price: Charged once per run as press time and technician time.
Typical: 60-180 min.
